John Falter's Jazz Portraits         Odessa Jazz Party

Falter also made numerous drawings while at the Odessa Jazz Party in Odessa, Texas, in 1974. Many of the original drawings are shown here with lithographs from the 1971 "Jazz from Life" series. In contrast to his sketches done at the 1971 Colorado Jazz Party, the Odessa works incorporated more color.   Kai Winding John Falter tempera paint and charcoal on colored paper, 1974 Kai Winding played trombone in big bands led by Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton, and Charlie Ventura. Winding was one of the earliest trombonists to play in the bop style with Charlie Parker and in a quintet with J. J. Johnson. Donor: John P. Falter Collection 10645-3580   Ross Tompkins John Falter lithograph, from the "Jazz from Life" series, 1971 Ross Tompkins played piano with Kai Winding, Eric Dolphy, Wes Montgomery, Clark Terry, Benny Goodman, Al Cohn, and Zoot Simms.
