Beginning January 17, 2009, the Nebraska State Historical Society's headquarters at 1500 R is undergoing a two-year renovation project to bring life/safety and HVAC conditions up to current standards. Researchers planning to work with collections housed in the facility should take note that during 2009 and into 2010 the Reference Room IS CLOSED and that SOME research materials (including most newspapers) are unavailable.

We are officially under construction as the new entry door into the Reference Room shows.

A barrier wall has been constructed in the first floor hallway to segregate the construction zone. The Library catalog drawers have been covered with plastic to keep them dust-free. 3-5-09
Security has been relocated just to the west of the main entrance as the barrier wall cuts through a large section of the first floor. The Nebraska Newspaper Index card drawers have been sealed to keep them dust-free. 3-5-09
The cabinets holding microfilm have been sealed and plywood has been placed on top for added protection.3-5-09
All of the books, equipment, and shelving have been removed from the Reference Room and the remaining built-in furniture is covered in plastic. 3-5-09
Stacks on all levels have been wrapped in plastic and sealed with tape.
