The Lexington Improvement Company was incorporated on October 25, 1889, with a fifty-year charter. The company dealt in real estate, mills, elevators, factories and their products, grain, livestock, bricks, lime, agricultural machinery, and lumber, groceries, and merchandise. The Lexington Improvement Company also built other structures, such as bridges, viaducts, and roads, that were deemed necessary to the operation and management of those businesses.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of one reel of microfilm containing one volume of minutes dating from 1899-1917. This material relates to business conducted by the Lexington Improvement Company as reflected in minute entries.
These minutes contain information about membership, including listings of company officers and Board of Directors. Plans for purchases and investments are discussed in resolutions adopted at company meetings. The records also contain the Lexington Improvement Company's Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws, which appear at the beginning of the volume.
The Nebraska State Historical Society does not hold the original minutes. The collection was loaned for microfilming by the Dawson County Historical Society in September of 1979.
