HISTORICAL NOTE

St. Paul's Lutheran Church was founded in 1884 under the guidance of Rev. A.W. Bergt. The church was built fourteen miles southwest of Auburn in Benton Precinct, Nemaha County, Nebraska. St. Paul's joined the Missouri Synod in 1921. Records show that a total of twelve pastors served the church until it disbanded in 1952.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection of records of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Benton Precinct, Nemaha County, Nebraska, consists of one volume on one reel of microfilm designated as one series: 1) Church Register, 1884-1950.

This material relates to the religious events and activities of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Benton Precinct, Nemaha County, Nebraska. The Church Register, 1884-1950, provides a listing of the church's "membership of souls," 1936; and information on baptisms, 1884-1950; confirmations, 1889-1950; communions, 1886-1943; marriages, 1886-1950; burials, 1887-1948; and a church chronicle. Information about the individuals involved in ceremonies of baptism, confirmation, communion, or marriage includes birthdates, date of baptism, names of parents, witnesses, and text of scripture used. The burial records also show the death and burial dates, the individual's age, cause of death, and surviving relatives. Subject headings are in German, as is the church chronicle at the end of the book.

The collection was loaned for microfilming in December of 1979.
