The Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Dakota City, erected in 1860, is the oldest standing Lutheran church structure in Nebraska. The Sunday School was begun in 1859 by C.F. Eckhart, a member of the Lutheran Church in Dakota City. The Lutheran Church met in Dakota City for a number of years but no records earlier than 1867 have been found.


This collection consists of six volumes and several loose items of material arranged in four series: 1) Sunday School records, 1874-1915; 2) Home Department records, 1906-1924; 3) Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor records, 1890-1898; and 4) Miscellaneous material. The material in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church collection relates to the Sunday School records of that church, giving attendance, membership rolls, minutes, and other information.
