RG3043.AM: First Congregational Church (Weeping Water, Neb.)
Weeping Water, Cass County, Neb.:
Size: 17 volumes on 4 reels of microfilm; 1 folder of misc. records
On November 18, 1860, six residents of Weeping Water met with the Rev. John Todd to organize the First Congregational Church. The church did not have a regular minister until the arrival of William E. Catlin in the spring of 1861. He resigned shortly thereafter due to his wife's ill health, and the congregation went without a minister until August of 1863. Then Merritt F. Platte began preaching at Weeping Water and Avoca. The congregation grew steadily from that time, although it often shared a pastor with other communities.
