HISTORICAL NOTE

The First Congregational Church of McCook, Nebraska, was established on July 2, 1882, under the direction of Reverend Amos Dresser. In August of 1882, the congregation combined with that of the Valley Grange Church of Red Willow, with Rev. George Dungan serving as pastor of both churches. During Rev. Dungan's tenure, the first church building was constructed. It was destroyed by a tornado on June 4, 1892, and replaced by a new building in 1894. The present structure was dedicated in July of 1932.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of two reels of microfilm containing eight volumes of church records, 1882-1971. It relates to the activities of the First Congregational Church of McCook, Nebraska, and contains records of pastors, baptisms, memberships, finance, officers and minutes of meetings. Also included are the constitution, Articles of Faith and Covenant, and the Congregational Yearbook.
