BACKGROUND NOTE

The Congregational Church of the Redeemer was organized on September 26, 1886 under the direction of Rev. George W. Rich, and was formally incorporated in August of 1887. The construction of a brick church building began on May 20, 1887, and the first services in the new structure were held on November 18 of the same year. Physical improvements to the building continued until plans for the construction of a new church were approved on February 25, 1926. The cornerstone of the building was laid on July 25, 1926, and the new church was completed on November 28, 1926, at an approximate cost of $24,000.

The Church observed its 25th Anniversary in April of 1911, its 50th Anniversary on December 5, 1937, and the 65th anniversary on October 6, 1952. The following year, the church held a fall celebration known as the "Harvest Home Festival" which has since become an annual event. On November 30, 1961, the Congregational Church affiliated with the United Church of Christ in Trenton, and on October 21, 1962, observed its 75th anniversary of continuous service in the Trenton community.
