SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of original (and typescript) letters, 1856-1866, between Benjamin Bates and James Bates, Florence, Nebraska. James Bates was in the 2nd Nebraska Cavalry from 1862-1863, and perhaps a U.S. Regiment until 1866 stationed at Fort Kearny. Also included are letters from relatives named Benstead.
