SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of correspondence written to Belle Dunn in 1926 regarding the history of Blaine County, Nebraska. The letters contain reminiscences of settlement in the area, mostly describing events from the 1880s. Early settlers, the organization of towns, weather phenomena, postal service, schools, and homes are among the topics discussed.

The photo component [RG0970.PH] consists of photographic prints and negatives, 1887-1902, and undated. The photographs relate to the early history of Blaine County and Purdum, Nebraska. Included are photographs of area settlers, children in front of a sod schoolhouse, and Purdum's post office and bank. Two photographs related to hunting and trapping are also included.
