BACKGROUND NOTE

Nels and Ella Nelson came from Skone, Sweden, to Illinois around the mid-1800's. Their daughter, Julia, born at Geneva, Illinois in 1881, was married to Calvin Bressler after the family moved to Nebraska in 1887. The Nelsons and Bresslers were farmers, but Alan Bressler, their son, was a machinist and heavy equipment operator.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection is arranged in four series: 1) Correspondence, 1881-1961; 2) Poems and songs of Julia Bressler, 1939-1941; 3) Records, 1892-1959; 4) Miscellaneous. Some correspondence relates to Nebraska State mental hospitals.
