The collection consists of photocopies of correspondence and reports written by or to U.S. Indian Inspector Edward C. Kemble. The materials date from 1877-1880 and concern the Ponca Indian removal from the Old Ponca Agency to Indian Territory. Included in the collection are the minutes of a three-day council held in January of 1877 between the Ponca chiefs, Edward Kemble, and others. The goal of the council was to set criteria for the removal of the Ponca. Also included in the collection is a letter from Peter LeClaire to Nebraska State Historical Society director, Marvin Kivett. The letter dates from December 11, 1951 and includes information about Chief Standing Bear and his family.
