Born on July 13, 1918 at Omaha, Nebraska, Everett C. Madson attended Omaha Technical High School. After high school he went to work for Woodmen of the World in Omaha. In February of 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He had planned to serve for one year, but his plans changed after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the United States entered World War II in December of that year. He did his training and was stationed at various bases around the U.S. including Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Camp Robinson, Arkansas; Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Camp Lee, Virginia; Fort Ord, California; and Camp San Luis Obispo, California. In June of 1942 while Everett Madson was stationed in California, he married Eleanor Klinger, who was also from Omaha.
Everett C. Madson served with the 110th Quarter Master Regiment. He shipped out in December of 1943 and was eventually stationed at various locations oversees including England, Belgium, France, and Germany. He returned to the United States in September of 1945.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists entirely of correspondence from Everett C. Madson to his wife, Eleanor (Klinger) Madson of Omaha, Nebraska. The letters date between February 7, 1941 and August 24, 1945 and provide great insight into the daily life of an ordinary soldier during World War II. Madson wrote to his wife nearly every day, so this collection holds a very complete record of Madson's service during World War II. Although the collection does not include any correspondence written to Everett Madson, his response letters provide information about happenings on the home front.
