BACKGROUND NOTE

Fred Krejci was born in 1903 to Mr. and Mrs. John Krejci and lived all but one year in Fillmore County, Nebraska. Fred took an art correspondence course and attended the Omaha Art School in 1930. Because of the Great Depression he was unable to be an artist full time, so he stayed in Fillmore County and farmed. He painted in his free time. From 1946-1963, thirty-two of his paintings were used for the covers of "Magazine of the Midlands," Sunday Omaha World-Herald. In 1979 he received the Purchase Art Award from the Association of Nebraska Art clubs. He died January 19, 1983.

Of special note is an original sketch that was used for the Exeter, Nebraska, centennial history book, They Called It Exeter. Loose items in the volume include two exhibit programs and two letters.
