BACKGROUND NOTE

Palmer Findley was born in Lewis, Iowa, on April 22, 1868. He received his high school diploma from Atlantic, Iowa High School in 1886, his B.Sc. from the University of Iowa in 1890, and his M.D. cum laude from Northwestern University in 1893. His internship was at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, 1893-1895. From 1898 to 1899 he studied in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris. He was instructor at Rush Medical College, Chicago, 1900-1908 and professor of gynecology at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, Omaha, 1908-1920. He is the author of numerous professional publications.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of "A Virginian Goes West," an eight chapter, unpublished biography of Thomas Campbell Sexton, written by Palmer Findley. Sexton was a Fontanelle and Fremont, Nebraska, physician, who was "a pioneer of Nebraska in the late sixties." The manuscript is typewritten and illustrated.
