Fast Facts about Sand Hill Cranes:
- The proper name is Greater Sand
Hill Crane.
- The average size of adult Cranes
is 4 foot to 5 foot tall.
- The wing span of a crane can
range from 6 to 7 feet.
- Young Cranes are brown and lack
the red forehead.
- Adult Cranes are grey and always
have red foreheads.
- Over 500,000 Cranes migrate
through Nebraska during March and early April and converge on,
and near the Platte River.
- The annual migration of Sand
Hill Cranes between Grand Island and Kearney Nebraska is now
in progress.
