See our stuffed animals, books, cards and jewelry. Fast Facts about Sand Hill Cranes: The proper name is Greater Sand Hill Crane. The average size of adult Cranes is 4 foot to 5 foot tall. The wing span of a crane can range from 6 to 7 feet. Young Cranes are brown and lack the red forehead. Adult Cranes are grey and always have red foreheads. Over 500,000 Cranes migrate through Nebraska during March and early April and converge on, and near the Platte River. The annual migration of Sand Hill Cranes between Grand Island and Kearney Nebraska is now in progress. Support the Museum store -- see our new stock of Sand Hill Crane merchandise.
