SUBJECT: "Beadwork Masterpieces: Native American Bandolier Bags of the Prairies and Lakes," presentation at 12 noon Thursday, February 17 at the Nebraska State Historical Society's Museum of Nebraska History, 15th & P Streets, Lincoln.
"Beadwork Masterpieces: Native American Bandolier Bags of the Prairies and Lakes," a lecture on the history, use and construction of highly-ornamented shoulder bags will be presented by Dr. Tom Myers, professor of Anthropology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln at 12 noon, Thursday, February 17 at the Nebraska State Historical Society's Museum of Nebraska History, 15th & P Streets, Lincoln. Bandolier bags were both functional and fashionable items produced from the 1860s to the 1940s. Spectacular examples of the form will be exhibited at the museum beginning Friday, February 25, and will include beadwork, embroidery and applique work examples from the Anthropology Division of the University of Nebraska State Museum, the University of Kansas Museum of Anthropology in Lawrence, and Union Station, Kansas City Missouri in addition to the Nebraska State Historical Society.
The program is part of the Nebraska State Historical Society's History Forum brown bag lecture series. It is open to the public free of charge. The lecture will air at a later date on the 5City TV government access channel in Lincoln and on Cox Channel 23 in Omaha.
