In the last quarter
century handcrafted musical instruments have been made in Nebraska.
These specialized instruments are in demand across the United
States.

The Bedient Organ Company, founded in Lincoln
in 1969, custom designs and builds commissioned pipe organs for
America's churches, universities, and colleges. Gene Bedient,
founder and president, has made many trips to Europe to study
old pipe organs and with fifteen employees makes all parts of
the pipe organs in Lincoln.

David Wiebe established his violinmaking
workshop in 1976 in David City. He crafts violins, violas, cellos,
and bass viols in the hand-carved tradition of European masters.
Many world-class musicians own Wiebe instruments. The Nebraska
State Historical Society specially commissioned the violin displayed
here, which is also loaned out on occasion for performances.
